ROME

Rome, the capital of Italy, is one of the oldest cities in the world, known as well as one of the most important cultural centers in Europe. With the Vatican City within its territory, Rome is also the center of Catholicism. The city was founded during the VIII century a.C. as an important trade route between the Etruscans to the north and the Greek colonies to the south. Legend has told that it was originally founded by the twins Romulus and Remus, who were raised by a wolf. Rome has remained the political, administrative and cultural center of Italy.

One of the main celebrations of the popular Romana tradition was, from the fifteenth to the nineteenth century, the carnival, reinserted by the municipality of Rome, albeit in a very different way, in 2010. Its origins go back to the Saturnalia of Ancient Rome, characterized by public amusements, dances and the use of masks
